The Infinite Alone Remains | Swami Sarvapriyananda

Uh, it is from a Shanti mantra, and it is attached to what is called the Shukla Yajurveda.

So each of the, uh, Vedas has its own Shanti mantra, and the Shukla Yajurveda has this Shanti mantra.

Purnamadah Purnamidam.

That is infinite.

This is infinite.

And so, the Upanishads which were come-- which come from this Veda, they will always have this Shanti mantra, this peace invocation.

The Isha Upanishad, we have studied it here, uh, that-- You would remember, we always started the classes with Purnamadah Purnamidam.

That is infinite.

This is infinite.

We are studying a little bit of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad now, and this is also from the same Veda.

That's why it starts with Purnamadah Purnamidam.

In fact, in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, which is the largest of the Upanishads, um, uh, this mantra comes as a part of the Upanishad.

In the fifth chapter, the first mantra there is, 5.1, is Purnamadah Purnamidam.

That is infinite.

This is infinite.

And Shankaracharya explains that there.

In the-- in his commentary, in the Bhashya, he gives a long commentary, an explanation and some debates regarding this mantra.

So let us dive deep into it.

It's so profound.

It covers all of Vedanta.

It covers, in fact, all of spirituality itself.

Purnamadah Purnamidam.

That is infinite.

This is infinite.

Here, that refers to God, Saguna Brahman, Ishvara, Bhagawan.
