Then without another word the princes turned and left the field while Arjun led the princess to the potter's hut where he reported to his mother that they had received a great gift that day.

Then it belongs to your eldest brother Yudhishthira was a quiet reply and according to custom and law the beautiful princess became the wife of the wise Yudhishthira while to Arjun remained the pure honor of the victory.

Who is noblest? Who is greatest? asked Yudhishthira.

Who is first in a company where all are noble and all are great? Then an old monarch, who in his youth had been known as the terrible, but who was now famous for his wise insight, supplied the answer.

Among the great, Krishna is the greatest.

But the classic formulation of the concept is found in the Bhagavad Gita, which is part of the Sanskrit epic the Mahabharata.

The Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between the god Krishna, who's also considered by many to be an avatar of Vishnu, and the warrior Arjuna, as they discuss things like karma, dharma, and the nature of the self.

At one point, Krishna says, despite being unborn and essentially imperishable, despite being the lord of all beings, I resort to my phenomenal nature and come into being through my creative power.

I send myself forth whenever dharma declines, and Adharma is on the rise.

Age after age, I come into being to protect the virtuous, destroy the wicked, and reestablish Dharma.

The word Avatara actually does not appear in this passage, or anywhere in the Bhagavad Gita for that matter, but it's generally viewed that he's referring to the concept.

When he says he comes into being through my creative power, Krishna is explaining that he can spontaneously manifest in the physical world by his own divine will.

And he does this with a purpose, in order to restore dharma, or social and cosmic order, that would otherwise collapse without his intervention.

And at his last hour of mortal life the whole universe shakes with conflicting emotions.

Why need I use the few moments at my disposal to marshal before you the various personages of whom these fables have been written? Let it suffice to recall the interesting fact to your notice, and invite you to compare the respective biographies of the Brahmanical Krishna, the Persian Zoroaster, the Egyptian Hermes, the Indian Guatana, and the canonical, especially the apocryphal Jesus.

Taking Krishna or Zoroaster as you please, as the most ancient and coming down the chronological line of descent, you will find them all made after the same pattern.

The real personage is all covered up and concealed under the embroidered veils of the romancer and the enthusiastic histographer.

What is surprising to me is that this tendency to exaggeration and hyperbole is not more commonly allowed for by those who, in our days, attempt to discuss and compare religions.

We are reading from Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 11, Chapter 18, verse number 33.

So Sri Krishna is continuing to describe the duties of a sanyasi.

He described the duties of one prastha and then of sanyas.

And as we read, it is primarily based on varagya.

So yesterday one question was asked about preaching.

What about preaching? Because here there is no mention.

Krishna does not say anything that what preaching has to be done by sanyasi.

In fact he said that they should stay away from people.
