Meet Giovanna, owner of La Catrina Mexican Shop inside Ridgmar Mall in Fort Worth, Texas. On this episode of the Global Latin Factor Podcast, Giovanna sits down to talk about leaving a 5-year career in Human Resources at Ganales Furniture to build a Mexican candy store and gift shop from scratch, using her father's wholesale distribution background and her mother's artistic eye.
We get into growing up Mexican-American in Haltom City, crossing the border as a child and the long road to citizenship, her family's roots in Tacú, Zacatecas, and how La Catrina grew from a simple dulcería into a full gift shop carrying authentic artisanal barro from Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Wirikuta, and the Yucatán Peninsula. Giovanna also shares how she pushed past her fear of being on camera to grow her business on social media, what she's learned from mastering vendor markets, and why she now hosts her own pop-up markets to support other small business owners in Fort Worth.
If you're curious about Mexican candy culture, immigrant entrepreneurship, or what it takes to build a Latina-owned small business in Texas, this conversation is for you.
