I have to imagine that they do that in part because some things will land.

37 days after Americans went to the polls, and now we have a winner, President-elect Bush.

Bush was elected with 35% of the Latino vote, the highest Latinx turnout for a Republican since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Latinos represented a rapidly growing voter bloc that couldn't be easily ignored anymore.

Capitalizing on this political moment, the Bush administration introduced an agenda that indicated pro-immigration reform was in the works, especially to help and benefit Mexicans.

Cool.

When you hear the word Latino, Latina, Latinx, what is the very first thing that comes to mind to you?

Latinx?

Latino, Latinx, in general the word.

I was like Latinx, I guess I don't really know, but I'm guessing it's like the newer generation.

That's just my guess.

Okay.

We also have new Latinx Hispanic Heritage Month classes and Oktoberfest classes.

Yeah, they're rolling out through late September.

There's just like a lot of new things coming out.

In honor of Latinx Breastfeeding Week, which is this week, I am really excited to have Vanessa Morones.

She is a passionate advocate for maternal and infant health with more than two decades of experience supporting breastfeeding families.

She was born and raised in Oakland, California, and she has a wife and mother of nine children.

Yes, definitely.

Yes, but she began her career as a WIC breastfeeding peer counselor and has grown into her current role as a perinatal program manager, where she works to improve outcomes for families across the community.

She serves as a member of the Alameda County Breastfeeding Coalition, a co-chair of LATCH, which is the Latina Chicana Task Force, and co-chair of the Latinx Lactation Collaborative alongside Jessica Marquez and many other lactation professionals across the United States.

She is also currently studying to become an IBCLC, which is amazing.

The Alasan Apache courts have played a significant role in the cultural history of the historic West Side.

It was named one of America's 11 most endangered historic places in 2020 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and it was recently named a 2026 Endangered Latinx Landmark.

It's been a decades-long fight to keep Los Courts and its residents in place.

It really is going to hurt a community.
