Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God? Let's talk to Andy Bannister...

And so maybe withdraw a bit from starting to even explore some of these big world religions.

I

don't know.

Is that a fair

articulation, do you think?

Of where we are is, I think, an interesting description, Jack.

I mean, obviously, I didn't know your kind of tribe who tracked with you, but an interesting stat that I came across just yesterday, actually, I was doing some work on a piece I'm writing.

And so this is an astonishing stat.

So we know that something like... 45% of people in the UK ticked no religion on the last census.

You've got the growth of the nuns, N-O-N-E-S, not N-U-N-S, N-O-N-E-S.

Astonishing statistic that 42% of nuns, people who don't believe in any kind of religion, believe in the supernatural.

So 42% of that crowd are in that, well, yeah, I don't believe, I mean, I'm not a member of an organized religion, but I believe in something.

And then another staggering figure, 25% of people who say they know religion, then when you press and dig and ask the questions, you tease out, they've had some kind of spiritual experience.

which can be manifested in a number of ways.

There's something I can't quite explain kind of rationally.

There's all that kind of language.

So there's this huge sort of sea of sort of free-floating spirituality kind of out there.

And I think there's two things going on.

But you know your tribes.

You can tell me if I'm on something here.

First is I think the new atheism is dead.

It's dead.

It's not just dead.

It's dead.

It's stuffed.
