Are the Chicago Bears becoming legitimate NFC contenders? Jason Page opens Friday's SportsWrap with a strong case for Caleb Williams after Chicago's 30-24 win over the New England Patriots. Former…

Brian TwiningGuestAll right, big story time, and let's talk about the Chicago Bears, who got themselves their fifth win of the season.
In a game that was pretty nip and tuck most of the way, we keep asking ourselves who are going to be the teams that potentially come out of the NFC in a year where we've said there are no truly great teams in the league.
Who could we point to as potential contenders? And the list is long, and it clearly includes a Chicago Bears team that has enough offense to compete with anybody in the league.
The question we keep asking ourselves is, is this team good enough defensively? They got key stops when they needed them last night.
They were able to put pressure on Drake May, who doesn't get nearly enough protection in the pocket defensively.
as he should and as he needs to be successful, and we've seen what happens when that protection breaks down.
You look at the one interception he threw, and in a 30-24 game, a lot of people are going to point to that one mistake and say, hey, this is why Chicago ultimately winds up winning this game.
But this game was as much about what Caleb Williams is doing on a week-in, week-out basis against a really good Patriots defense as it is anything.
And when I stack up the quarterbacks in the NFC right now, I want you to be honest about this.
When you combine records and you start talking about the best quarterbacks in the NFC, is there a quarterback you'd rather have right now in the NFC? Is there a quarterback you'd rather have right now with more upside than Caleb Williams? I'll give you a second to think about it.
He can make plays inside the pocket, which is where Ben Johnson wants him to be making plays.
And he can make plays outside the pocket with his legs and extend plays in situations where you're sitting there saying, how did he get out of that? How did he escape that situation? You know, we continue to see this on a week-in, week-out basis from Caleb Williams.
And hats off to Ben Johnson for having the huevos to basically say, hey, you know what? We won't punt it away.
