LSU just sent a message to the entire college football world. Now the question is whether anyone can actually answer it. Tony and Gareth break down a wild Week 1 slate that reset the conversation…
So, I mean, where do you want to start here, Gareth?
Yeah, well, I was thinking we should start, because we talked last week about the Death Valley Derby, so the LSU-Clemson game, and what would LSU look like? You know, I think they've been training, Lane Kiffin's gone to Baton Rouge, nobody really knew what the team was going to look like, and my goodness, it was an absolute annihilation, wasn't it? LSU beating Clemson 51-10.
I think my takeaway from it was LSU didn't look like a team that had been put together in the in the close season they looked like a team that had been playing together for for weeks and gelled pretty quickly and I don't know whether their performance was particularly good or Clemson's performance was particularly bad but LSU were were dominant and they racked up 644 yards 38 first downs which which apparently is a school record at LSU which impressive in Lane Kiffin's first game and when you think of some of the teams that LSU have put out in recent years.
He's clearly got rid of that foot injury that was bothering him.
And, you know, I thought he looked a bit like the kind of informed John Mateer pre-injury last season.
He was, you know, darting through defences.
He got two touchdowns on the ground.
And he's only going to get better if he can stay injury-free.
But, you know, Clemson by on the other hand were pretty dismal, I think.
145 total yards.
They had...
Minus four rushing yards, so absolutely no ground game.
Poor Chris Vazina, who sat on the bench for three years in Clemson, lasted three quarters.
But it was...
Yeah, what was your take on it? I mean, it was a pretty impressive debut by LSU, wasn't it?
Yeah, well, I think we talked about this on the show.
I mean, I can't remember what we...
We didn't predict scores, but I mean, I agree.
Like, I thought this was going to be a landslide
for
LSU.
And it really was.
