I've been teaching and writing about criminal law for 15 years, not decades, Elon.

I remember arguing New Right positions against my dad, who was a Reaganite Republican in the 1990s.

The case is incredibly controversial and right wing commentators, podcasts, you know, X blogs are kind of a thing of the past, but sub stacks are going nuts.

They're calling rather for all sorts of radical surgery to criminal law, like get rid of the insanity defense, get rid of the jury.

What we have here is a case of reasonable conservative rage that is utterly misfiring.

The problem is a certain kind of gender-based identity politics and weaponized moralism that that the new right rightly objects to, and that this case has come to symbolize.

But we in the conservative movement have to see clearly what the real issue is.

But what's going to happen is we're either going to totally fail to address and to fix the real problem, or we're going to break a lot of other things that that don't need to be broken because they actually are good for us.

Do you remember last year when DeCarlos Brown stabbed Ukrainian refugee Irna Zarutskaya, I might mess up her name, on a, on the train, on a subway train.

Imagine someone came on and said, there's the DeCarlos Brown case is just terrible.

Well, we'd all say that's idiotic, right? The problem is a person who was arrested 14 times and was clearly like psychopathically insane and murderous was on the streets and he got another victim, right? That's the problem, not knives.
