S2E26 Mariners' Trade Deadline Review

Let's open up with the Mariners.

The trade deadline has come and gone.

The Mariners making a couple of moves at the deadline.

We're going to go into each of the trades individually, give our grades and our thoughts on the two deals that they made.

But I want to open up with just sort of an ode, just a shout out to Luis Castillo.

He's now with the Chicago White Sox.

He's going to be helping them in their pennant chase as they try to win the AL Central.

But, you know, Luis Castillo, his tenure with the Mariners, three and a half years, I believe, maybe the best trade of the Jerry DePoto era.

He's sort of getting Luis Castillo given up.

It was Edwin Arroyo and Noel V. Marte.

That sort of marked the beginning of the Mariners opening up this window of contention and signaling to the rest of the league, hey, like, we have arrived.

We are going to go for it.

And then let's not forget, Luis Castillo starting the first Mariners playoff game in 21 years, works into the eighth inning, seven and a third, shutout ball against the Blue Jays as they ended up beating Toronto and then going on to win that wildcard series.

And

then how about coming out of the bullpen, too? Exactly.

In game five of the ALDS and how electric that was, too.

A lot of great memories.

Yes, and I also want to thank Castillo for re-signing here.

he came back and kind of solidified that rotation.

And he

didn't really look around.

He was like, I want to stay here.

It's pretty simple.

And so

he was, I mean, he was a great pitcher at that time.
