TJ MathewsonHOST
18:24
Otherwise, I'm going to be a little turned off about a manager like this.
Lyle GoldsteinHOST
18:28
I mean, I'm sorry, but my take on this is even if you are confident and you're looking around at the potential jobs and you see a Mariner's job that has the potential for a one-year term because of the front office or Houston, who you know you're going to get more leashed with because of a new front office, and you look around and say, okay, we still have Jordan Alvarez and we still have pieces that can work – Because we still have Jordan Alvarez, and we still have guys like Jeremy Pena, even though he's getting close to free agency.
Lyle GoldsteinHOST
18:56
And we still have young pitchers like Hunter Brown.
Lyle GoldsteinHOST
18:59
And we just made the playoffs last year, and we're going to be in a weak division.
Clint PasillasHOST
53:07
moron I am so we call that a brain fart brain fart there definitely should get some love AL MVP you and Kevin had Bobby Witt I got Aaron Judge I definitely will be wrong And it's probably going to be...
Clint PasillasHOST
53:21
Well, I guess it's between Jordan Alvarez and Junior Caminero.
Clint PasillasHOST
53:26
It's probably still going to be Jordan.
Clint PasillasHOST
53:29
We all picked Shohei as our NL MVP.
Jeff SniderHOST
55:07
Yeah, 7.1 on baseball reference.
Jeff SniderHOST
55:10
I'll have to check fan graphs and see.
Jeff SniderHOST
55:13
Yeah, Cam Schlittler was second, and then Jordan Alvarez.
Jeff SniderHOST
55:16
Schlittler had 7.0, Alvarez 6.8, Bobby Witt 6.7. Wow.
Cody StavenhagenHOST
20:21
But it is interesting.
Cody StavenhagenHOST
20:22
Dingler, for a while, looked like he could be the runner-up to Jordan Alvarez and obviously fell off.
Cody StavenhagenHOST
20:28
I think it's...
Cody StavenhagenHOST
20:30
One of those things when we talk about Dingler, did we see the best three-ish month span of his entire career? Is he ever going to do that again? And that's not to knock him.
Eric SamulskiGUEST
20:57
It's just like I may be a little more cautious of those injury risks next year than I have been previously.
Justin MasonHOST
21:06
yeah i think for me it it's really the kind of yearly conversation i have about jordan alvarez right which is like you know when he's on the field he's going to be an elite player it just it's not a risk of like oh how many games he's gonna miss it's when he misses games he misses a crap ton of games right like it's you know you either get 600 plate appearances or you get 275 plate appearances Um, and so like, I think for me, it really becomes a discussion of where are you willing to take that risk? And, you know, we talked about at the top, like this may be the year to take those kinds of risks, right? Because if we have a hundred game season,
Eric SamulskiGUEST
21:48
maybe,
Justin MasonHOST
21:49
you know, that is potentially the time to take those risks or in a shallow league, like a 10 team league, I'd be willing to kind of take those risks because you know, there'll be, you know, waiver wire fodder that can really impact your team.

Eric SamulskiGUEST
67:10
So Gunnar Henderson in the third round, okay, fine, but I'm not taking him over Jordan Walker.
Eric SamulskiGUEST
67:16
So you get to this point where it's like, if I'm not taking a pitcher, I could see rolling the dice, right?
Justin MasonHOST
67:24
Yeah, I think for me, and I make this argument a lot of times early on in drafts when we have discussions about these types of players, and I'm going to beg that you don't look at my draft board and see the fact that I took Jordan Alvarez with the 11th overall pick in the first round while I make this argument, but anytime you are drafting in the first two to three rounds you are taking an elite player right all these players are you know yes some have greater upsides and in safer floors but like they're all elite so like i want the guy who i feel is i'm most confident will return the value as opposed to i think picks like this are often like well he could be a first round guy that i'm getting in the middle of the second round I care less about that.
Justin MasonHOST
68:09
I want guys that I feel really, really confident are going to return the value that I'm getting at that point.
Brant DubeauHOST
5:39
dude yeah he did it like it was nothing too the guy's just a fucking man he's a leadoff hitter yeah because he's not like he's built like a man but he's not really that hitter like he's He's got it in him, but he doesn't hit like that.
Brant DubeauHOST
5:52
He's built like he should be playing like Jordan Alvarez
Konnor Pierson-WardHOST
5:54
baseball.
Konnor Pierson-WardHOST
5:56
And he's not.
Adam WeinribHOST
16:39
Jose Altuve is involved.
Adam WeinribHOST
16:40
Jordan Alvarez.
Adam WeinribHOST
16:41
You're trying to split DH left field with Altuve, Alvarez, all these other dudes.
Adam WeinribHOST
16:45
I mean, you got to clear out one of these guys.
Dave LanePANELIST
4:01
Yes.
Justin MontemayorHOST
4:01
So we're applying the same thing to, like, Cy Young trying to strike out Jordan Alvarez to doctors.
Justin MontemayorHOST
4:08
Yes, we
Bob SturmPANELIST
4:09
are.
Zack WaxmanHOST
68:11
or not charging it, but you're getting a health discount and treats the missed time as a reason to cut price.
Zack WaxmanHOST
68:16
So last year we saw Jordan Alvarez was getting that treatment, and we know how that worked out.
Zack WaxmanHOST
68:21
This year, the best example that I could come up with personally was Wyatt Lankford.
Zack WaxmanHOST
68:25
He was about $25 last year.
Rich WilsonHOST
62:54
over the place.
Rich WilsonHOST
62:56
All right, so next pick, we picked Jordan Alvarez, number one, Kurtz, number two, and Chase Burns, three.
Rich WilsonHOST
63:07
I got power, big power, big power, great, a great pitcher, and I have no speed at all.
Tim McLeodHOST
63:17
Yeah.
Tim McLeodHOST
64:21
62% file.
Rich WilsonHOST
64:21
That's good for 25, where he is.
Rich WilsonHOST
64:27
20 yeah 27 home runs it's not the batting average so i'm getting batting average and on base percentage with with uh kurtz and particularly jordan alvarez all right i'm going zach nito okay cool it's also bryce terrain
Tim McLeodHOST
64:43
interesting that's that's the other guy that i would uh that i would have considered was terrain
Doug McKainHOST
32:10
You want him to provide value as a defensive player as well because then... that nukes a lot of his value.
Doug McKainHOST
32:17
Like, for him to just be a DH, like, the dude's gonna have to hit, like, Aaron Judge or Yordan Alvarez to really earn his keep, in my eyes.
Doug McKainHOST
32:27
Like, it's great that he can hit, but...
Doug McKainHOST
32:30
Defense matters.
