This Changes EVERYTHING For The Niners... | Daily San Francisco 49ers News & Rumors

Starting with the big news from Tuesday, which was that the 49ers have signed veteran wide receiver Brandon Cooks.

to the practice squad.

Now, I don't know as of recording this video if there's going to be a corresponding IR move or if someone's getting released from the practice squad or someone's getting elevated.

There's going to be some roster juggling that needs to happen.

We don't know what's going on with that just yet.

But as I record this video on Tuesday evening, Brandon Cooks signing with the 49ers practice squad.

What we do know is that Cooks had the option to sign with the Baltimore Ravens, who he's worked out with recently.

But instead chose to sign with the 49ers.

Now this makes sense.

Brandon Cook's a little bit closer to home.

He's from Stockton, California.

So playing for the 49ers is a little bit closer to where he grew up.

And I'm sure he isn't going to turn down the opportunity to play for the 49ers.

Kyle Shanahan and play with Brock Purdy.

Because remember, Brandon Cooks was an L.A. Ram for a little bit there.

I believe he was traded there, when was it, 2018? When Kyle, not Kyle, when Sean McVay was a new fresh-faced head coach in L.A., they traded a first-round pick for Brandon Cooks.

So clearly he works in this style of system, even at his old age, right? Now, the way it was worded is a little bit weird, right? They keep saying in every announcement, there's talk of, you know, they're bringing him onto the practice squad so that he can get up to speed for games.

You see that quote a lot.

Get him up to speed for games, right? And the way I interpret that is that he doesn't know the playbook, right? He hasn't come in on a visit.

This is just the Niners taking a shot on Brandon Cook's... very savvy vet who's been around for a long time.

And they're like, you know what? Come on in.

We'll have you on the practice squad for now.

And then once you get acclimated, you can come to the 53.

That's kind of what I'm reading from it, right? Is that he's going to have a spot on the 53 and, Once he is ready to go, once he has the offense down, and once it looks like he's in good football shape, which I'm sure he is, right? But that's what it seems to me.

It seems like he'll be on the practice squad probably for a little while until he gets acclimated, maybe a week or two.
