US Common Ground Podcast | Transforming a Factory Town

And I wanted to mention that the movie that I completed in 2013 with Stephanie is called Saginaw Rising.

You can find it on Culture Unplugged.

You can go to Culture Unplugged and you can watch it.

It's streaming.

But it was really...

When we did the filming in 2013, we talk about decay.

There were a lot of buildings that were uninhabited or falling apart, and I think it was like 200 or more that were eventually torn down.

There were at least 200.

There's more now.

Okay.

Yeah, there's more now.

Yeah, and it was like the city had to remake itself, and there was a number of steps that were taken in that direction.

I know SVSU got invested.

Delta got invested.

The health care sector really, really shifted.

There's a health care move, and Saginaw is going to become a medical hub.

They're working on a big project on Washington Street called the Medical Diamond.

I don't know when that's going to come to fruition yet, But that's in combination with Covenant, Ascension Hospital, and CMU Medical School.

That's going to happen.

And I think you'll probably get some more interaction with Saginaw Valley College, Saginaw Valley University.

Delta College already built a branch in downtown Saginaw.

Saginaw Valley State University has a satellite office, but they'll probably build, I hope, at some point.

Yeah, the CMU presence, of course, is really huge because they have the medical school also, which brings a lot of fresh medical people into the community.

Yes, it's becoming a medical hub because, you know, you really get past...

the tri-city areas and go north, there's not a lot of big hospitals.
