Genesis 6 — The Rebellion That Corrupted the Earth?
Why was the pre-flood world so corrupted that God chose to start over? In this episode, we uncover the second great rebellion in Scripture — one that's often skipped over in church teaching but that Peter, Jude, and Jesus himself take seriously.
Drawing on Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm and Reversing Hermon, we dig into Genesis 6:1–4 and ask: who were the "sons of God," and what really happened when they took human wives and fathered the Nephilim? We'll explore the ancient Near Eastern background—including the Mesopotamian apkallu traditions—and see how the New Testament writers used this material to explain sin, judgment, and the powers Jesus came to defeat. Along the way, we'll look at:
- Why the "sons of God" points to a supernatural rebellion, not just Seth's line marrying Cain's
- How the flood was an act of grief-filled judgment, not just a reset
- Why Noah's story is really about mercy, patience, and a promise that survived
- How Christ's incarnation, exorcisms, and cross confront the long aftermath of Genesis 6
- Why this ancient story still matters for how we understand spiritual warfare today
