Most marketers today are under pressure to do more, move faster and constantly prove results. But what actually drives growth long term? In this episode of Inside the Creator Economy, we sit down…
Um, and if we zoom out a bit, what do you think, based on this, what do marketers tend to overcomplicate today?
But, uh, I think that, uh, we tend to, to overemphasize the role we have in, uh, in the choices consumer make in regard or to our products.
Uh, and, uh, the best example I can give you is that, uh, uh, as I said, I'm an engineer, so I'm still have an analytical mindset.
Uh, every market mix model tells you that, uh, media or advertising or communication represents about 10%, 15% maximum of, uh, of the sales of your brand.
The rest, the, the other levers are repertoire, distribution, promotions, what happens in store, uh, the way your product looks and tastes, and so on and so onWe tend to put too much emphasis on this 10, 15%, while maybe there are other levers that you could be focusing, maybe not as much, but half of the attention that we offer to, to advertising.
Yeah, I think most of the large organization that I've had the pleasure to work with, I've seen over the years a, a constant, uh, reduction in the, in the tasks that a mar- brand manager, let's say, is, uh, is tasked to do.
So if you, if you exclude the, the startups or, like, the one-person shows, uh, if you work in a large consumer packaged goods organization, and if you're a marketeer, you're ma- mostly talking about comms all day or all night.
Uh, and maybe that's why we start to, to think that marketing is comms or advertising, while in fact, uh, I would think that as a brand manager, you would need to have control.
If not control, you would need to have at least an opinion about every lever that is available for you to pull.
