You know, what I love about the Quran is that, uh, each surah has a particular type of, um, coherence and sort of integri- integrity within the, the surah, and then there are themes that connect it broadly across the Quran.

And in reflecting on chapter 49, Surah Al- Al-Hujurat, you know, I was reminded that, uh, in the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that they had, uh, they had a certain way of describing...

But I've been given a special virtue over the others by the mufassal surahs," which are those, uh, chapters that have those very, uh, short ayat that lend themselves to memorization.

Um, there's another version of the hadith in which the Prophet says, peace and blessings be upon him, that he was given, um, the tiwal in place of the Torah, and he was given the me'in in place of the Zabur, I think, and the mathani in place of the Injil, and, and blessed over the other ones with the mufassal.
Mm-hmm.

Um, some scholars, when they look at the Quran, they say, "Okay, those tiwal surahs, those lengthy surahs that are, s- that suffice all of the Torah," we're talking about chapters, uh, two through nine, Al-Baqarah through, uh, At-Tawbah.

And then for the me'in surahs, that roughly around 100 verses or so, give or take, this is from chapter 10, um, to around Surah to Ya- Ya Sin or so.

And again, these are not, like, these are not, not sort of like, they're, they're not hard and fast descriptions, but they help us to kind of understand, um, that in the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that they understood the thematic coherence of the Quran.

And so I, uh, some, you know, some scholars say that the mathani surahs, I think, go from 36 or so to 49, Al-Hujurat.

So what does mathani mean? Mathani is when there is something that's being repeated, there are layers of meaning, uh, the meanings kind of connect and reinforce each other.

And so with, uh, Al-Hujurat, for me, the overriding theme that really the thread running through this surah is that Allah Ta'ala is describing taqwa, not just in terms of individual, um, personal piety, but taqwa has this very important communal and social and kind of political manifestation, and that's something that really strikes me about the surah.

So, you know, it, it begins with this address, and it's very emphatic this way.

It's, it's all about ""Ya ayyuha alladhina amanu"" Like, this is a surah for you-
Mm-hmm

That if you say you believe in Allah, in, in this, in the Prophet, peace be upon him, in this message-
