Ibn Taymiyyah: Why Prison, Exile, and Enemies Could Not Break Him | His Life & Legacy
B
11:38Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
You're now developing this mixing pot.
B
11:41Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
Shaykh ul-Islam Taymiyyah, he studied under his father and his brothers as well were scholars as well He studied under his father and he memorized the Qur'an before he became baliq, before he reached puberty And he studied and mastered hadith, fiqh, the Arabic language, Qur'an And he studied with over 200 different teachers Over 200 different teachers Shaykh ul-Islam Taymiyyah studied with And in this time of studying, he mastered all four of the madhahib And he went in great lengths of studying And in detailed study Now one of the things that is unique about Ibn Taymiyyah One of his students, Imam al-Dhahabi He mentions, I've never met anyone like Ibn Taymiyyah Who is able to quote the Qur'an and the Hadith so fast You're asking him a question, the hadith, the ayah is there, impactful Imagine Imam al-Dahabi who wrote a book that is like this large on people's biographies And he's saying there's no one like Ibn Taymiyyah who has that speed, that recall, that command Ibn Taymiyyah was unique and a pure genius in this He mastered almost every field that he touched If you see Ibn Saimiya, some of the people when they comment on his works There was a time in his life where he had access to no libraries He had access to no books And he was still writing books Lengthy books with nothing to refer to Sometimes we underestimate this When we think about scholars and authoring books and things like that If you're writing an essay or you've done something like that how many times are you referring back to the original PDF or the original document just to check if you've got the wording right imagine writing an entire book and all of your entire database is purely in your mind imagine you're writing a book where you're combating someone else's ideas you're refuting something But you don't even have their book in front of you.
B
14:11Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
So not only do you understand and can recall your position perfectly from your memory, but you can recall the other person's as well.
B
14:21Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
That was the depth of his knowledge.
B
14:25Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
His knowledge was encyclopedic.
B
14:28Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
Now, in his time, there's a story which, I believe Ibn Qayyim, he narrates this story, that when Ibn Taymiyyah was... young and he was still learning that there was this Jewish man who would regularly come and debate him and he would try to challenge Ibn Taymiyyah and try to challenge him in the matters of faith and they say that Ibn Khaym he mentions that Ibn Taymiyyah was so even though he was a young boy we're talking like maybe at this time maybe 15, 16 something like this and he's debating with a grown man Who's confident enough that he feels that in a Muslim land he can debate a Muslim And try to convert them So he must have knowledge Ibn Khaym says that How quick Ibn Taymiyyah Ibn Taymiyyah didn't stutter in his responses He was fast So fast that after a few occasions that man converted to Islam This was Ibn Taymiyyah as a child Now What happened was, as Ibn Taymiyyah reached the age of around 21, his father, rahimahullah, passed away.
B
15:47Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
But what that meant was, is that Ibn Taymiyyah took over the chair of the Sukariya Madrasah, which was the head, the Darul Hadith.
B
16:00Bilal Ibn YusufHOST
So his father was the head of this Madrasah, the head teacher.

And there's a very beautiful chapter in the book of Hadith, the Sunan of Imam Abu Dawood in which he talks about باب اهتمام النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بالصلاة How much care, consideration, how meticulous, how much attention and time the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gave, how much importance he gave to the prayer.

I Pakistani rape gang scandal in which hundreds of thousands of young British girls, indigenous girls, underclass girls, not even working class, the left behind, the most forgotten of all our children, have been systematically abused because they are kafir, because they are not Muslim, by these... people from a very specific region in Pakistan, who, by the way, quite regularly cite the Hadith or the Quran to justify what they're doing, and the systemic cover-up by either members of that community who have infiltrated local councils or local police, but also by, I guess you would say, lefties too scared to be called racist, to do anything about it.

So I say our challenge is often we take a lot of things in the Quran for granted Like we take granted we are mu'minun We already, you know, those who are faithing It's like somebody saying I'm an Olympic weightlifter And he's never been to the gym You know, when you go to the gym Or say swimming is a good example, right? No matter how much you believe that swimming is the greatest sport for our body, no matter how much encyclopedic knowledge you have, you try and jump into the pool without going through the process of learning swimming, you're going to drown, bro.
M
59:43Mustafa AlmansurGUEST
So anybody out there who thinks, for example, that they're going to study the Qur'an and they're going to study Hadith and then all of a sudden they're going to become empowered by Allah in their choices, they're fooling themselves.
M

Because Iman was taught before the Qur'an even.

Then I'm assuming that all your books which are of different school of thoughts, primary books, but then, and this is a layman who will assume that, but then I would probably go to all of the Islamic institutions and see that, man, where do research papers exist, I will pick them up and bring them, then I will go, I will go, in the last two and a half thousand years, I'm sure the books that Madrasas have, they must be cited by all these different scholars, right? How are you going about gathering all of this material? What all material are you adding to this? And the modern Islamic scholarship, which is coming from Malaysia, Saudi, Egypt, Pakistan, US schools, Harvard, Stanford, they all have Islamic schools.
M

F
24:27Faris Al HammadiHOST
so here the prophet is he does he mean independently him he's the one that took him out and minimized or decreased the punishment no he says i'm a cause yeah yeah and many of the salaf used to mention this kind of statement but don't think this is not allowed or this is something of a violation What did he say? If it wasn't for Imam Malik and Al-Layth, we would have been misguided.
F
25:00Faris Al HammadiHOST
If it wasn't for the people of Hadith, who memorize Hadith, Al-Huffaz, Al-Akabir, the seniors, then we would have seen hypocrites or kuffar, they will give khutbah on the pulpits.
