South Africans

So it's been very interesting to see that there are some food rivalries.

So I know a lot of South Africans eat.

love a good brie brekkie.

But the food that took the top spot was actually garlic bread and brie packs.

A new report shows that banking apps accounted for a massive 89% of digital banking crime cases last year, with customers losing around R1.7 billion through app-related frauds.

And overall, South Africans have reported $2.4 billion in digital banking losses last year.

And that's a 29% jump from the previous year, which was 2024.

And scammers seem to be getting smarter.

I think in the second and third tests, he was put under a lot more pressure.

And that's where the South Africans, I thought, did a great job of They haven't given Roy Gard a lot of space in any of the tests to work his magic.

They've looked after him really, really well.

He got a wee bit more in the third test and looked a bit more dangerous, but up until that point, they've sort of shut him down, really.

I still wondered about a little more attacking, kicking.

probably earlier in the game in particular.

And some of that can come from 10 or just inside backs in general, just to try and make that line speed of the South Africans or make those defenders think about it a wee bit more, maybe turn them a wee bit.

Because, you know, we're trying to play ball in hand and what do they call it, optimistic footy.

I even have someone on the line.

How many times have you answered your phone only to realize it's another marketing call or even worse, a robot? Well, South Africans could soon have a powerful new weapon against those annoying.

I want to pull my hair out.

Spam calls.

It doesn't add value, brother.

So what we have done, we have built the system over the years.

We are ready to launch it, hand it over to South Africans.

But what we'll do, we'll start with direct marketers.

But this series, You've got to have rugby with people, man.

You've got to have that hostile South Africans in your face.

And it was just – and us going that, like, 1-0 down was just – it was beautiful.

I mean, New Zealanders were on us, and I just had this feeling.

Rassi swearing and Dave going at it.

It just adds to that spice.

I mean, South Africans are all doing the scrum thing.

It just... makes a series beautiful and I agree with you guys and now they're all going overseas away from us where this has all just been such actually a beautiful chaos and now they're all in America and like you said some guys don't even know who Jasper is but I mean it is what it is and like you guys said I'm just glad New Zealand didn't win so for me I'm happy

So the Thought Leaders Forum is really a platform that we've curated as Old Mutual, which really has one mandate, and that mandate is really to improve retirement outcomes for working South Africans.

So we bring together thought leaders to talk about how do we improve the situation

Because a statistic which often gets quoted and is a very disturbing one is that only 6% of South Africans, those who are lucky enough to have had enough work to potentially allow them to have a retirement plan, are doing so.

Correct, John, and sadly so.

That's a horrendous statistic, 6%.

And I guess the beauty of week to week, you sort of know what's coming and you have to stop it.

And Unfortunately, the South Africans, they just got one up at the moment on the All Blacks.

Is it as simple as size over speed, Marty? I mean, it's become reduced, hasn't it, this rivalry to the same old tropes that are always rolled out when it comes to the box and the All Blacks? It's almost the beauty and the beast, isn't it?

Yeah, mate, it's... it's it's two different styles and you're just trying to i guess the all blacks are trying to run the legs off them and then they're just trying to put the put the all blacks in their cycle which is high line speed knock on scrum penalty more and repeat you know so yeah it's um it's it's it's contrasting styles but believe if the all blacks can get it right and put some put some runners and and some workload into the the tight five of the spring box and they might get some pay I don't know if you noticed last week they zero ruck so then they're just all on their feet and we're trying to go sideline a sideline mate and Jesse Creel cuts the outside off and and they're quite happy to defend um and then they just squeeze you when they when they turn the ball over so it's going to be fascinating that's for sure

Can I ask how much of this comes down to literal time in the saddle, though? I mean, you're talking about Dave Rennie picking up the reins, getting a few tests under his belt, then going to South Africa for the hardest assignment in world rugby compared to the South Africans who have had essentially a settled selection team and coach for a couple of World Cup cycles now.

100% mate that's that's the game line analytics at its finest if you follow those guys out of Melbourne yeah as Rassi said he's had the team for 8-9 years they know him he knows he knows everyone and their families and everything and he knows how to he knows how to squeeze them when it's needed and they've come back from they've come back from not winning first game of Lions series and not winning World Cup games and going on to win so 100% it's around the cohesion and they're that much further down their path than what Dave Rennie and his men are.

So it's a lot of learning for the All Blacks, but it should put them in good stead for next year and further.
