Hard Faith Podcast | Season 4, Episode 10 Be Afraid: Horror, Halloween & the Theology of Fear with Dr. Kutter Callaway Can horror movies actually strengthen our faith? And what if the Bible's…
Kutter CallawayGuestSpencer FolmarHostWell, that's a great introduction, great background to how this book came to be.
And it's a really great topic to tackle because like you said, horror is, what did you say, 20% of all ticket sales? It's

Yeah, the different stats of like, it's a little blurry, but it's somewhere in that 17 to 20% now, depending on where you kind of, if it's the summer blockbusters or the full year, but yeah, it's close to that.
I've seen a couple of horror films and there's a couple of movies when I was a kid that I saw that terrified me.
One, because it's such a renaissance and it just keeps getting bigger and more successful.
And then my nephew, who is like my... other family member that has a great interest in filmmaking and cinema he sees all the horror movies and just loves horror movies like we saw horror we saw uh sinners together last year which was an interesting um you know horror genre uh combo but it really is the renaissance of horror and it is so ironic that in the pandemic when things were so horrific and we were living a horror film, people went to the theaters to watch it.
Why is that? Why are we so interested in horror? Why is it such a renaissance?

Yeah, well, you know, some of this is speculation, so I don't know for sure.

But I personally believe that one reason is there, at least let's talk about North America, right? Or the U.S.
