A.W. Tozer is famous for saying that what comes into your mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you.
What would you say is the most important thing about you? You might get very far down a list before you think, oh, it's what I think about God.
It's whatever your conception of God is in your mind will frame your entire existence.
Show me a man whose mind is filled with God, and I will show you a man who is living well on this earth.
Yet today, we live in a day and age and an evangelical culture that doesn't think deeply about God.
A few hundred years ago, six-year-olds would be required to memorize and answer this question from the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
But that is what every six to seven year old, depending on what church you were in, would have to answer that question, have that memorized in their mind.
How many of us today, if you're being honest, when you think about God, these are the things you think about.
The reality is that the evangelical mind has been for some time deprived of essential knowledge of God.
Lifeway Research did a study last year, and what they showed was that only 66% of believing American evangelicals believe that God is a perfect being that cannot make a mistake.
Or one in three American evangelicals don't believe God is a perfect being and believe that he can make mistakes.
What does that do to your worldview? If you don't think about God as perfect and that he can make mistakes, how does that affect your life? How do you sleep at night thinking that God is out there doing his best but not living, but could make a mistake? Another statistic that's on your screen, 53% of American evangelicals agree with the heretical statement, the Holy Spirit is a force but is not a personal being.
That's a heretical statement, by the way, because all throughout the New Testament, especially in the book of Acts, you can go to places like Acts 5, the Holy Spirit is talked about in personal terms.
