I love this.

If you're a person that doesn't come up for air, I like the ESV version that says, and to aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs and to work with your hands as we instructed you.

I think that's a great word.

That's old school, man.

Now some translations say be encouraged.

Other translations, I think NIV and ESV, translate the Greek even more literally.

Take courage.

Jesus says to Paul there, take courage.

A reading from the Book of Proverbs.

When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite.

Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.

Then I saw and considered it, I looked and received instruction.

A reading from 2 Samuel.

Behold, now is the favourable time.

So look at, as they are wrapping up their gospel presentation in verse 38 of chapter 13, they say, "...let it be known to you, therefore, brothers, that through this man," they're talking about Jesus, a son of David who was raised from the dead, "...through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you." and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

So there, the language in the ESV even reflects this idea of freedom.

So we see a literal jailbreak with Peter, but then we also see, well, you can be set free from your sins through faith in Christ.

You can be forgiven.

Quote, I would say amen to copywriting a version of the Bible if that copyright is used to protect the version from distortion rather than to make anybody rich.

A Bible version like the English Standard Version ought to be copyrighted not because you're going to keep paying translators or a committee.

That's not the point.

The point is that unbelievable care, prayer, and energy goes into a translation's accuracy, and you don't want anybody taking it, saying it's the ESV, and then changing the words to wrong translations.
