April 2026 gave us a Congress that took a two-week vacation, came back to vote on war powers, Israel weapons sales, FISA surveillance, DHS funding, and whether Minnesota's clean water should be…
And I will tell you that the first two weeks of April, there was no Congress, because during the first two weeks of April twenty twenty-six, Congress was on vacation.
So last month, I told you about a new development in Washington, DC, which is TMZ DC, which had caught members of Congress on a trip to Scotland while the Department of Homeland Security was still shut down during this extended vacation that they took.
Now, in TMZ's picture, they had identified Jason Smith of Missouri, Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, John McGuire of Virginia, Claudia Tenney of New York, Bill Huizenga of Michigan, David Rouzer of North Carolina, all mulling around on Edinburgh Castle.
I had a feeling, but thanks to TMZ, we now have more details about that trip.
It turns out that there were more members of Congress there than we knew about.
There were 30 total members of Congress that went on that trip to Scotland, and they were able to confirm that this trip was paid for by us taxpayers.
Now, I should tell you that trips like this to other parts of the world by members of Congress on our dime, these happen pretty often, and I think we should be more aware of them and sometimes angry about them, because members of Congress say that they take these trips to meet with foreign dignitaries.
And I'm sure they do that while they're there, but they are also, let's be real, taking taxpayer-funded vacations.
Like in this instance, the members of the ruling party were touring a castle, not meeting with our troops in a war zone.
And they were doing this using taxpayer money at a time when this Congress is aggressively cutting our returns on our government investments because our debt is out of control. And this particular trip is not like most congressional overseas adventures because most of the time, members of both parties are welcome and do participate.
Like so much of what has happened in the 119th Congress, which has been c- ruled by Republicans, this was a benefit purely for Republicans, and that was not normal.
And I consider this particular trip to be a scandal because as I have mentioned a few times now, this was one that was taken during the Department of Homeland Security shutdown.
That department had been shut down since Valentine's Day, so even though their Scotland trip had been pre-approved by the Ethics Committee, that doesn't mean that it's approved of by me.
Because when part of the government is shut down because they haven't finished their homework, they should have to stay in DC and get their [censored] job done before they go and run around in a castle.
