The Great Commandment - Guest Speaker Dr. Darrell Bock

Now I'm going to ask you a question to start off with, because I'm a professor, okay? And so I want someone who knows the answer to yell it out, and it's okay to be wrong, okay? But...

Do you know how many commandments Jewish people say are in the Torah? Does anyone know that number? Go ahead.

It's close.

Close.

All right.

All right.

The angels go, that was a great try.

All right.

Anyone else know? He said 616.

That's close.

Know what the real number is? 613.

613 commandments in the Torah.

Okay, now, again, I said I'm a professor.

Take out a sheet of paper and number from 1 to 613.

Okay, we're going to go through the commandments of the Torah.

Aren't you glad Jesus came? Alright? Alright? So, I'm going to take the 613 commandments of the Torah and I'm going to talk about a text that actually says what matters.

This sermon is actually part of a series that I normally do called The Greats.

And there are two greats in Scripture.

One is the Great Commission and which you all know, right? Go into the world and make disciples, okay? And the second is the great commandment.

I'm going to talk about the great commandment.

Why would I spend time talking about the great commandment? Well, I actually gave this message in Sydney earlier, and when I was all done, one of the people in the audience walked up to me and said, you know, I've been in this church 40 years.

I've heard a lot about the great commandment, and it gets referred to regularly, but I've never heard someone spend an entire sermon on the theology of the great commandment, which is what I'm going to do for you.

And what we're talking about is keeping the main thing the main thing.

These two things, the great commission and the great commandment, are called great for a reason.

And now I'm going to really throw you off.
