Rays (S29) Game 166, ALCS Game 1 - vs Cleveland Guardians (10/12/26)

First, of course, I know this is a Rays baseball podcast, but the Rays haven't had to play since last week, and we've been covering them daily, so how much do you have to talk about? I mean, it's not that we're running out of things to say, but there are more important things to talk about than who led the team in fourth-inning doubles in the month of July.

For example, who are the Rays going to play if they reach the World Series? Well, the Brewers and Dodgers began the 2026 season National League Championship Series last night in the state of Wisconsin.

Milwaukee gets to host the first two games as the owners of the best record in Major League Baseball all season.

Los Angeles wasn't far behind, but even one less win would be enough.

Last year, the Brewers got swept by the eventual World Series champions in four games.

Each team went down in order in the first inning of last night's game.

Top two, Milwaukee starter Jacob Mizorowski puts Shohei Otani on base with a leadoff walk, and then a single behind him by Teoscar Hernandez moved him into scoring position.

A one-out single by Andy Pahis scored him for the first run of the ballgame.

It was 1-0 until the fourth.

Bryce Turang got ahead in the count on Tarek Skubal, and the Dodgers starter, Got taken deep.

A 2-0 sinker hanging.

Terang homered.

And it was a tie game heading into the fifth inning.

Mizurowski got a fly out.

Then walked leadoff man Mookie Betts, so the Brewers brought in a reliever.

D.L. Hall got Freddie Freeman to ground into an ending-ending double play.

But it's a tie ball game, so there would be a no decision for Mizurowski, the probable Cy Young Award winner out of the National League this year.

Bottom five.

The Brewers got a leadoff walk and used a sacrifice bunt to move that runner into scoring position, and it was a good move.

Luis Lara singles, and the go-ahead run scores.

Scooble would finish with seven strikeouts.

Mizorowski finished with five, but Scooble took the loss.

That's right, that 2-1 score held for the final score.

D.L. Hall was the pitcher of record when Lara got that RBI, so Hall is the winning pitcher, and Trevor McGill got the save in Game 1.

It is the first win by Milwaukee over L.A. in the playoffs since Game 6 of the 2018 NLCS.
