We are delighted to have another remarkable guest joining us on the podcast today! Dr. Jesus Molina, the Director of Industrial IoT at Waterfall Security Solutions, is a seasoned cybersecurity…
Derek HarpHostAnd I was kind of screwed with it because my professor, William Arag, actually made a company out of it and make a lot of money.
But I signed off my patent because I was a young student, and he told me, be careful what you sign.
But anyway, what I'm saying is that sometimes when you're young, you're very trusting, and that's something you learn.
But what I built there with William Auerbach was this patent work in 2016 is an intuition detection system, but in hardware.
So basically, it was a PCI boards that you plug into your computer, and it will check your memory and your hard drive, but without the intervention of the operating system.
So basically, we'll use the PCI bus to download modules from memory and download parts of the drive itself, the blocks, and it will evaluate them.
That's one thing that was very interesting to me, because I have to work with hardware.
And after that, I did my PhD, which was on evaluating intuition detection systems.
And perhaps the biggest lesson I learned there is that I created all these honeypots.
So I put like 100, I think, honeypots And I could capture all the information that all these bad people did and try to evaluate them, right? And the honeypots were very special because I did it in a way where they have like three levels of monitoring and one was created by me using a kernel model.
So I detected, I think it was 800 intrusions and I make all these big mathematical models, but there was one thing that escaped me.
There was one person, only one, and that was able to disable my first monitoring system, my second monitoring system, and my third monitoring system.
And there was no reason for him to do that because at some point he knew that was a honeypot.
