It's like... what are the primary conspiracy theories of the 70s and 80s? And they're just reverting back to them.
Maybe it has to do with the degradation of conspiracy theories that we were talking about before, where it's like, now you have a conspiracy without really a theory that these people throw out.
They're not even trying to tie this web together with the intricate interweaving of different theories.
disparate pieces of so-called evidence now you just have these claims v8 attached to nothing at all and uh i mean maybe that is what's compelling people to go back to conspiracy theories of a time when uh you know conspiracy theorists put real work into into weaving these webs but uh otherwise I don't get it because it's to the point where these conspiracy theories are being revived, but they also seem outdated.
At what point do we start getting people coming out again saying Elvis is still alive? And then, you know, then the obvious question of like, well, fuck, how old would he be?
So the house oversight committee's task force on the declassification of federal secrets.
And this is the same goofy organization or, or a committee that representative Anna, what's it? Anna Luna.
She was the one when she was running for Congress, she floated the, idea of or maybe actually at maybe when she was elected she as like you know a freshman congressperson she was like floated legislation to put trump's face on mount rushmore so like this is the kind of uh serious political operator we're discussing um so this subcommittee has a couple interesting made a couple interesting moves that don't totally suck like um Pittsburgh congressperson Summer Lee proposed a bill that would make the FBI release all its COINTELPRO files, which, you know, COINTELPRO, real documented conspiracy of the FBI spying and sabotaging activist groups, you know, simply for being left-wing or... sometimes right-wing.
I think it actually started as an anti-Klan measure, but it quickly became just used by J. Edgar Hoover to attack anything vaguely left-wing.
But for every one of those, there's a dozen We've already talked about the UAP disclosure hearings, the Jeffrey Epstein hearings.
And this MKUltra thing is part and parcel with that kind of project of, yeah, like exposing every disproving conspiracy theory and trying to make it relevant.
I have to take this opportunity to take a digression because you talked about COINTELPRO being something that you, and I don't know one way or the other, but I'm not familiar with the deeper background there, but whether it started out against the Klan or not.
But I'm considered an activist myself and run an organization called the Satanic Temple, and we're always fighting for church-state separation.
And one of the things that people never seem to understand is when we're looking at a case... on a case-by-case basis of the government trying to limit the rights of any group, whether it is the Klan or anybody else.
And of course, we don't care about the Klan, but we care about the precedent set.
It's only a matter of time before the political tides turn and the same precedent is used against other groups.
And this is a difficult thing for people to grasp to the point that when we see a group that we disagree with entirely ideologically speaking, but we say it goes too far to limit their rights in this way, people feel like we're then defending that group specifically, and they don't understand that we're defending the principle, right? And I feel like there's so many examples of times in which you see bad precedent being set against bad people.
And it's like when Harvey Weinstein was on trial and they disregarded so-called evidence that was gained from recovered memories of some of his alleged victims or even actually established victims.
