WH57: Paul Hikari

What we talked about before we started, there was some cool stuff you were saying about...

You were working on a screenplay, and you were working on voice acting, and all this cool stuff.

Yeah.

The big thing I've got going for is titled King of Blades.

It's about this girl who, for the audience listening in right now, it's about this girl whose dad is a champion in a gladiatorial virtual reality competition type thing.

But on his way home one night, he gets paralyzed in a train crash, and the girl, she blames herself for what happened to him.

So she goes to enter, in her own right, and prove her self-worth.

But along the way, she goes to pretty extreme lengths, risking her relationships, friends, family.

You

know, you didn't tell me it was a virtual reality thing.

I feel like that adds another sci-fi element to it.

Yeah.

It's really cool.

I kind of have a knack for mashing up genres.

Oh, yeah? Have you worked on anything in the past that...

Well, there was this one audio drama called Emperor Pigs, which I wrote an episode for.

Okay, so it's like a...

Is it like an anthology-style thing, or is it like a serial...

That thing was kind of like an anthology-serial thing.

This project is a pretty serial project.

I actually kind of started working on it, well, back in college, or shortly after...

I graduated college.

Okay, so this has been a long time coming.

Uh-huh.

I bet it's gonna feel so good when it's, like, finally, like, ready for release.
