On today's WUB Tailgate, T-Bob and Mintzy get the table set for Week 8 across college football. Before they get there however, Mintzy points out the disparity in the current CFB National Championship odds compared to the AP poll. BYU sits No. 2 according to AP voters, but is T-10 to win the title at +4500. Something doesn't add up there to him. The guys preview this weekend's marquee matchups including No. 7 Ole Miss at No. 19 Texas, No. 14 Houston at No. 10 Utah and No. 6 Indiana at Michigan. They also check in on the state of the Heisman race, have some SEC talk and check in and answer some topics from the chat.

Polls, BYU, and Ole Miss-Texas1:59 – 8:33

1:59

First thing I got to get to, this is before we touch base on the game this week, is the current polling system in college football.

2:05

With AP polls and, you know, I see Brandon Walker's poll and Josh Pate and Dave and everybody's got their poll.

2:12

The difference in the polls and the rankings and what's actually happening on the field has got to be discussed.

2:20

And this BYU thing, and God bless them, you know, they had a huge win as a 10.5-point home underdog.

2:26

You've got to give them credit.

2:27

They're great at home.

2:28

And they have one of the biggest wins of college football season.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:30

Yeah.

2:30

But who the hell thinks they're the number two?

T-Bob HebertHost

2:33

Well, okay, okay, okay.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:34

So I'll push back on this, though.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:35

Go for it.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:36

Because you are correct, right? I mean, I probably am more bullish on BYU than you are, than many are in general.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:44

But we had the conversation this morning.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:46

Do you really believe BYU could make a run through the playoffs, like make a national championship? And when I think about that, honestly, I'm not as closed off to it, but I am pretty tepid about it.

T-Bob HebertHost

2:58

But...

T-Bob HebertHost

3:03

the AP poll are not power rankings, right? Like those are two separate things.

T-Bob HebertHost

3:08

I agree.

T-Bob HebertHost

3:08

Like what you're talking about is power rankings.

T-Bob HebertHost

3:10

And I agree in a power ranking scenario, BYU would not be two.

T-Bob HebertHost

3:15

Miami probably wouldn't be one.

T-Bob HebertHost

3:17

More of an argument there.

T-Bob HebertHost

3:19

But the point of the AP poll is to just honor the wins and losses that have happened on the field.

3:25

Okay, well, I get that to an extent.

3:26

It's just a disconnect.
