Simon GallacherGuestKateHostJuliaHostWe haven't actually recorded an episode since the London Marathon, which took place about six weeks ago now.
So with all of the buildup that we've had over the previous episodes, we thought now would be a good time for Julia to give us a race debrief and let us all know how it went on the day.
So Julia, over to you.
Please tell us everything.
[laughs] Oh my goodness, it feels like such a long time ago already.
Oh, I don't know if it's fair to say it was an amazing day.
I did still have, you know, that kind of section about 30K where I was really struggling.
But overall, I did quite enjoy it, and I was quite modest with my goals, wasn't I? I said-
Mm
...
I'd like to do it a bit faster than last year and maybe feel a little bit less rubbish when I crossed the finish line, and I, I did both of those.
I also didn't sore myself, didn't vomit, didn't collapse, so you know, I'm, I'm taking that as a win.
That's all you can ask for really.
[laughs]
Exactly, but it is just such a mad day, like it's so busy.
People that haven't been either as runners or spectators, I don't think you can really appreciate the sheer volume of people, the noise, the crowds.
I've never known anything like it.
Even as a spectator, it's crazy, so I can't imagine what it's like to be running and trying to weave around everybody.
It just looks really manic.
Yeah, um, but I quite enjoyed the first half of it.
It was really lovely seeing then my family, uh, around the just before halfway mark, and then Tooting Run Club at halfway.
That's when it probably dropped off a cliff a little bit.
Up until about 25K, I was roughly doing kind of negative 5K splits, and then I was just like, "Oh, for God's sake, I just need to finish." It was quite a hot day in the end.
It was really warm even just standing on the sidelines, so I saw a lot of people looking like they were really struggling, particularly towards...
Where did I see you the second time? Like mile 23 or something.
