When will Steelers sign Joey Porter Jr and other lingering offseason to-dos

What would be the first thing he needs to finish?

Well, I think the thing of most importance in my mind is the Joey Porter Jr. contract extension.

I just don't know if that is going to be the thing that Omar Khan gets done first.

It's the biggest thing, but yeah, maybe not the first thing.

I know you and I have talked about this extensively.

I do feel like this could be something that lingers a little bit through training camp.

And I wonder what impact that's going to have.

I mean, again...

This is kind of a very important time for the defense with installing Patrick Graham's system and kind of getting up to speed.

I feel like Joey Porter Jr. is going to need to be in there.

But at the same time, I'm not going to blame him at all if there is a little bit of a hold-in situation just because of the fact that this is such a crucial moment in his career.

It's so pivotal.

Go back to OTAs when Mike McCarthy was talking about his excitement for These guys to sign their second contract.

He's seen this happen time and time again in his coaching career.

But I just the way that we've known Omar Khan to do business, what we've seen with Cam Hayward, what we've seen with TJ Watts, these things can linger a little bit longer.

Sometimes up to the point where it's the final week before the regular season.

So I wonder how this is all going to play out.

And I do think that Omar Khan is probably going to play a little bit of hardball with Joey Porter Jr.

Yeah, I think if you're Omar Khan, you might even have to anticipate that this is something that like if you're Joey Porter Jr. and they give you a deal right now.

Yeah.

There's no reason necessarily why you would want to sign that and why you wouldn't want to unless you're resetting the market or unless you're a top three corner in the league.

Say, let's try to let this linger a little bit.

Let's do the hold in game.

Let's see what happens.

Yeah.
