Shotgun Spotlight: Tom Parrish

At Shotgun, Liz and I are, can see each other at work.

Like, I can turn and look at Liz, and we can have a conversation about something that's kinda going on, uh, or an artistic decision or a financial decision, and we can, we bounce back and forth each other like that.

But we're, we have a, a staff of seven, you know? And Berkeley Rep has a staff of...

We have, like, 80 full-time.

Yeah.

And we have, we, we have no less than 125 people on payroll at any given time.

We'll go up to 250 people on payroll during a musical.

[exhales]

Uh, we employ 500 to 600 people a year.

Yeah, so a larger organization.

[laughs]

You know, by, via some, by some, by some number.

But I'm curious, when you get to the scale theater of Berkeley Rep, how much... like, how close are you and Joanna on a day-to-day basis? You know, how much are y'all actually...

Can you turn to her, turn to her, you know, and say- This thing just came up, what do you think? Like-

Yeah

... how do y'all work with each other?

Yeah

Anyway

I, I mean, we, we are on the same end of, of the office.

Um, Berkeley Rep's offices are in West Berkeley.

We have a 65,000 square foot pre-production facility which has our scene shop, costume shop, prop shop, rehearsal studios, and offices.

And so our offices are on the producing and general management wing of that building.

We chat almost every day.

Yeah

Um, because, you know, we're always working on something.
