Mackie won a Tony Award for his work on the Broadway show.

For Hamilton, one of her fondest memories of Mackie was more personal.

When planning her 2025 wedding, the publicist tells USA Today that she couldn't have imagined wearing anyone but Mackie down the aisle.

Are these awards like, you know, when you see certain awards on TV, I think about Oscars and Grammys and Emmys and Tonys, and there's always these stories of, well, is it corrupt? Is it who you know? Is it a popularity contest? Is that what's really going on here or in certain circumstances? Whoever wants to answer that.

You know, again, I have only judged one award, I'll be honest, but I've participated in many and applied for many.

And my experience was it's actually a very rigorous process.
