In this episode Grant and Bill discuss: \- Planning for memory-making travel \- Planning for a confident retirement \- Planning for the future
Coming up on the show today, as we do get into the meat of things here, we're gonna be focusing on planning.
You know, financial planning to help you achieve your goals, planning for memory-making travel, for confidence in retirement, and- and planning for the future, which is really where I wanted to start today, Grant.
Um, talking about the holidays, people getting together here as- as we roll towards Thanksgiving, Christmas, and, you know, Hanukkah, all the holidays that bring people together.
Uh, is that a good time to sit down and talk to the family about, you know, their estate planning and what your plans are for them after you're not here? Or should that be done not around holiday time?
You know, what are you doing? Are you, are you grilling out, and you and your dad are sitting there grilling for everyone, and- and you, you genuinely have curiosity around, "Hey, uh, hey, Dad, what have you done for your estate planning? I'm starting to look into, uh, some estate planning for myself and making sure that I have everything lined up, making sure that my beneficiaries, making sure that, you know, if you have a trust, making sure that it's funded.
And i- i- if I have just a will, is that appropriate, uh, for myself? What have you done, Dad, to, uh..." You know, and- and that'd be a soft opening to- to making sure that, you know, your parents are taken care of and making sure that, uh, every- everyone is on the same page.
Uh, I wouldn't, I don't think if you have 25 people around the, uh, [laughs] around the dinner table a- on Thanksgiving, I don't, I personally wouldn't say, "Hey, Dad, let's all discuss what you've done for your estate planning." I, you know.
And there, actually, there was a survey, uh, survey done around that, that, you know, the majority of people say, "Hey, you know what? That's- that's probably not the best place to do that, uh, is around that Christmas or that Thanksgiving table." But- but if you have a, some one-on-one time, you know, just, you know, a- a a soft opening that I would use with my dad if I wasn't doing what I'm doing is, you know, "What have you done? I'm t- I'm trying to figure this out, too.
You know, from an estate planning standpoint, what did, what did you do to make sure that things are in order for, uh, for the rest of your life from an estate planning standpoint?"
And I just can't imagine it being, you know, right after you start carving the turkey.
