Generation X

Yeah.

If you're of a certain age, that's just a Gen X vernacular.

Right?

Yeah

But again-

It'd be family lore

... anything below Gen X, I think it's re- it's a real reach, that anyone in their, like 30s right now would even know what that is.

I'll ask Jordana if she knew that.

And her crime? Well, according to the police, it was for an act that just about every parent of a Gen X kid in America committed.

Last time I checked, it wasn't illegal for a kid to walk to the store.

It is when they're 10 years old.

We'll be heroes.

Yeah.

Ask any Gen X boy about their childhood, and most would say that they roamed the streets of their neighborhood all day, with the only direction given by their parent was to be home before sundown.

Yours truly would go on my BMX bikes with a crew of friends in search for adventure.

I'm struggling with what a lot of yoga teachers are struggling with happening in the profession.

But one of the things I was thinking about is it really isn't just the yoga world that – I know a lot of people like Gen Xers who are like independent creators in one field or another.

And they're all facing similar circumstances.

It's not just yoga teachers.

Right.

So we're talking about what it's like to be Gen X, and oh, boy.

And what did you tell me, Matthew?

That we just go, "Yeah, it's a schlep at this stage in our lives," and we just get on with it.

And it was quite a high, expensive, high-profile event.

And the audience was this amazing collection of Gen X people, these men with fins on their hats.

And, you know, like every George paraphernalia.

And they were there with their kids.

This week, the recording industry put out a press release that told us how everybody is doing amazing.

But back in 1995, Gen X will remember this probably, TLC put out an album called Crazy Sexy Cool.

It was the album that had the big hits on it, right? Waterfalls, Creep, and it sold 10 million copies in the U.S.

alone.

Yeah.

Like, We talked about Gen X a little bit at the beginning of this, like as Gen Xers, we do know a life before digital.

We know a life before digital.

We know a life of come home when the sun goes down.

I mean, I'm dating myself.

I'm like Gen X person.

You know, it came in and I was like, why would I do this? I don't really feel like.

telling the world what I'm doing but

Like, how is it possible that you don't really care while I have you, you know, at a certain level, I have a certain, you know, um, idea around how you would approach this and that really stuck with me like you can have very intelligent very successful people that basically have no clue how money works and at the same time you know obviously when you've sold your company and you have some capital you need to protect it right so he was trying to figure out like how am I going to do that but then on the other side you know in the same group of my generational peers there are people that for example, cannot buy a home, they cannot have children or they don't want to have children because they're very unsure about the future, if they can pay it and all these things.

And so kind of like these experiences in that week while I was figuring out how do I niche down, I just realized I should focus on my generation because The previous generations, when we look at the boomers, for example, they had real estate as a very big opportunity to build wealth.

The Gen Xers had a very big opportunity to build wealth in the stock market and index funds, etc.

And so I do believe that like for every generation there is a certain opportunity, right? Maybe the generation before the millennials also had like, you know, the internet stocks and stuff like that, like...

in the age where they became able to invest.
