On today's episode, James and Glenn welcome Pastor Jimmy Williams to dig into ecclesiology: how should a church be governed? We walk the spectrum from Catholic hierarchy to Baptist autonomy and land…
We're gonna talk about, uh, um, it's a part of systematic theology, but it's ecclesiology, but we're gonna limit it very, very much to the way that Jimmy has his church set up, and how he, how, what's the cur- church function and whatnot.
We, you know, the, we, we were talking somewhat in the green room about the Catholics and their, their hierarchy that they have created.
Um, but I wanna know what makes Jimmy tick, and, and I'm gonna make a little bit of a, of a guess, is...
What's the, uh, what is the, uh, order of authority? Author- order of how you conduct, conduct business? A very, very important p- a part of systematic theology, but never discussed on this podcast before.
And as you know, I grew up in a little Baptist church up there in Union Parish.
So, um, I g- grew up in churches where communion might be done once a quarter, once a year.
There was, you know, you sang five songs, the choir sang five songs, sang a special.
Uh, and as I got involved in church and began to attend a little bit more organized church, I realized that some churches had a little more structure.
Now growing up in that loose church, I'd always got the impression that, uh, you know, like Catholics and, and Presbyterians and, you know, ones of that type, uh, E- Episcopal, that, that their, their, their church services was just a bunch of ritual, and all they did was follow a particular road every morning.
And so I say all that to say this, I've come to understand how the ritual and the routine does in fact matter, and is very important because in low churches we missed a lot of the, the significance of what routine does, especially our kids, what it teaches them.
