The obsession with Sasquatch and Whitehall dates back to 1976 and the Hebert Road incident.

It was summer, August, and a group of teenagers called police frantic, saying they just saw a giant hairy beast in the woods off Hebert Road.

A local police officer named Brian Gosselin responded to the call, and he says he saw it too.
I could see eyes, which I always say, the size of a mayonnaise jar cover, red.
They let out that big old bellow, and I'm just...
I mean, you could feel it in your face and your chest.

And since then, people have reported hundreds of similar sightings in and around Whitehall.

I went this year to the festival, and I saw hundreds of people step up to the microphone to give their best shot at summoning the beast with a series of hoots, howls, grunts, and hollers.

The festival also featured panel discussions with Bigfoot hunters and so-called experts.

They talked about everything from practical safety tips for going on hunts to what you should do if you find a dead Sasquatch in the woods.

By the way, the panel unanimously agreed that you should lop off its head and bring it to authorities immediately.

On the ride home from this festival in Whitehall, my head was spinning with the echoes of the Sasquatch calls.
