At 6 p.m. Eastern was the deadline by which NBA teams could sign eligible players to rookie-scale contract extensions.

One such player for the Wizards was Bilal Koulibaly, but the Wizards did not sign him to a contract extension.

How much of that was the team versus how much of that was him? It's hard to say, but Koulibaly now is set to be a restricted free agent in the 2027 offseason.

Also, the Wizards on Monday afternoon announced their regular season opening roster.

The roster stands at 18, including three two-way players, one of whom is University of Virginia product Reese Beekman, who the Wizards this past Saturday afternoon announced as having signed to a two-way contract.

He, per a press release from the team, will, quote, work alongside President of Baseball Operations Mike Elias, managing basketball.

Banner will lead the organization's player development, coaching, and performance efforts while also partnering with Elias on strategy, staffing, and talent acquisition, among other duties, end quote.

For all of this, This with Jared Banner sounds swell, okay? But here's the bottom line.

There are two major issues that the O's have got to figure out, and you can put these issues in whatever order that you want.

A, why has the team been hit hard by injury in each of the last three seasons, 2024 through 2026? B, why have so many of the team's key young position players dealt with regression slash lack of progress over the last two seasons? The O's over the last two seasons have had other problems, but these two issues have been the team's two biggest problems over the last two seasons.

And so now we are seeing some changes with Orioles baseball operations, although Mike Elias clearly is not being fired.
