Sam DignamHostMark SandersonHostBut we were looking forward to those shows, and both you and I, Sam, got to see The Cure for the first time.
And it wasn't just one show, it was a whole run of of shows uh and uh i was at one show a headline show and then we also had all points east sam you managed to fit two afi headline shows in and then after that we had the all points east meets outbreak kind of crossover Event week day in London Where yes AFI were present on that as well But we also had a headlining performance there From the Deftones Along with a whole bunch of other bands Scattered throughout the bill as well So it was a very tiring weekend I certainly know you would be as well We needed a bit of a rest A bit of a calm down But looking back on it now A couple weeks after the fact Momentous occasion for all of us gathered here And even like some of our listeners Who aren't even in the same country as us but know what a big deal it is for example the afi are returning like i can't wait for when you guys get to finally talk about when those afi shows come from the uk so that is the real theme of today's episode is looking back on a weekend to remember

The fact that Deftones' biggest UK show ever was a bit of an afterthought for us because there was so much else going on.

And again, I don't want to sell that Deftones show short, which I'm sure we'll get into, but it was AFI again.

This has been a band I got into in 2007 and had not seen and had just been waiting and waiting.
I feel like recently, early this year, Spotify did a thing where it was like...
I'm not sure what the reasoning was, but they did something where it was like, look at your most played artists of the last 10 years, or whatever.
Been a fan for longer than that But certainly in the last 10 years I've apparently been consistently listening to All the time More than any other And they weren't around you know they they they avoided us during during those 10 years so we it was a culmination of uh as i'm sure that you know again if you are a regular listener of our podcast over down the years um things that we didn't think were going to happen things that we were hoping would happen in the in uh the likes of the cure and even when we get to the death zone things things that A few years ago would have been unforeseeable That they have happened in the way they have happened So let us try And I don't know Reel all of our very erratic Overcome with emotion Thoughts in and try and go through This incredible sequence of events That happened with us Let us start with The Cure And then we will cover the various AFI shows Together So The Cure Like I said, doing their first run of UK headline shows for the release of their newest album, Songs for Lost World, which came out at the end of 2024.
