Calvin and his dad Andrew from Nivlac57 join Fred, Witty, and Reece to talk about their love for building FAST cars with engines nobody else wants! From GM 4200s and Cadillac Northstars to Nissan…
What made the 4200 so desirable to you guys? Because there's so many other motors that are cheap at the junkyard, but you guys saw something in the 4200 that you needed to put...
I have a list of 17 of their cars right here.
I think nine of them out of the 16 or 17 had a 42 or has a 4200 currently.
So...
Hang on, let's go back.
What is the 4200? What did it come in?
Yes.
You know, the old school like Camaros and stuff, they used to come with inline sixes and they came out with kind of the last dying breath of the inline six.
Um, and they made around 300 horsepower from factory, um, you know, fairly decent architecture, but the problem is they only put them in SUVs.
So people didn't really, it didn't really take off.
You know, they didn't put it in a sports car, right? Three,
it was 300 horsepower, but they never put it in something where you'd notice 300 horsepower.
Yeah.
So it's an aluminum block, aluminum head, dual overhead cam in line six, 4.2 liters, 93 millimeter bore, 102 millimeter stroke.
Is there anything about it that makes it more like sleeper race car of a motor? Like the VK I know has like thick, nice, way bigger stuff.
We'll get to the VK stuff later.
But I know it's like out of the box.
It's like, oh, this is like kind of more upgraded than an LS would be out of a junkyard type stuff.
I would say the factory main girdle is a big part of it.
There's a lot of aspects to the block that make it more rigid.
The cylinder heads on them are like...
The intake ports are massive.
