Variable valve timing

Obviously, you've got to have oil in there to lubricate, but oil controls valve timing.

All right, you hear the term VVT, variable valve timing.

Oil is in there to help position internal engine components, the camshaft, into the right position to make this simple.

The bicycle sprockets, it's got to keep the bicycle sprockets aligned so that they turn correctly so that things move smoothly.

What was the issue? He was walking up to the car and when he got to the driver's door, he was like, VVT.

Came over, unplugs the VVT solenoid, revs the ball down a couple of times, fixed.

Oh, yeah? Yeah.

Fixed? The VVT solenoid was stuck in it.

Oh, Jesus Christ.

Even when you don't feel otherwise.

Right? And I guess we've talked about this before with VVT and force plates, all these things.

But nonetheless, let's just kind of keep the science-y stuff out of it for a second.

It's more just... understanding that regardless of how you feel, you can still do some pretty impactful things with the effort and the exertion kind of lining up.

Said, "However, it be- it soon began making a rattling noise on a cold start Which is suspected to be, he says, the VVT gear.

He said, "I also notice it's now burning double the oil it has all these years, about seven-tenths of a quart for every 500 miles." He said, "In trying to get an accurate gauge on the current oil consumption amount by letting it go 500 miles before refilling it, I notice that the cold start rattle seems to only occur as the oil level drops a bit." It's like while still being above the halfway between the dots.

He says, "Here are my main questions.

What would you suspect has caused the increased oil consumption, and would you expect the VVT gear rattle to respond to the oil level or does that suggest perhaps a different cause than the VVT?"
