A look at the 0-4 debacle in the NFL, injuries everywhere, some fun games for this weekend, Refs should not stand out, Fare well Lane Johnson

This is absolutely a huge setback for a mo- for them, as if, if, if they did want to make the, uh, playoffs, only one team has ever actually made the playoffs after starting out 0-4.

Um, I did a bit of a little bit of a deep dive into some of these teams to try to see, like, you know, um, who they were playing, try to check their records from the season before to see, um, who it was that they, uh, that they... who they'd been playing the year before to see, like, you know, try to see, like, were they a good team coming into this year, um, and just had some bad luck starting out? Like, what actually happened to them? Um, for the most, it's, it's, it's not good.

Um, for example, the 1992 San Diego Chargers that are the only team to ever start 0-4 and make the playoffs, uh, the previous season had been 4-12, so this was not a good team coming into the year, um, for them to consider.

Uh, then you have the 2017 Los Angeles Chargers who were 5-11 to start the... or the year previous in 2016, uh, to, to a previous, their 0-4 start.

Now, they ended up being 9-7 and missed the playoffs, unlike the previous year, the '92, or the previous time the Chargers had done this in '92.

Um, the Houston Texans also were a decent team that I could find that started 8-8, or started 0-4, ended up 8-8, missed the playoffs.

You gotta remember, though, this was back when they were playing in the AFC South when Peyton Manning was in the, on the Colts roster.

Um, so my question here is, like, looking for teams that kind of compare to, like, this year's 0-4 Texans, and the Bucs, and the Chargers for that matter.

Now, there are things that you can call, you know, extenuating circumstances for why teams have been losing.

Um, it, it's... you start to kind of get into the weeds a little bit on it, uh, for sure.

Um, but the biggest thing to take away here is that, um, the Texans still have flaws on their offensive side of the ball.

So the thing that I was able to find that I found most interesting about the teams that are 0-4 this season is their DVOA.

Now, I don't like to get super heavy into the stat nerdery, but this is defense-adjusted value over average.
