In this Scene Lately episode of Scenecraft, we discuss our latest watchlist — including Mortal Kombat 2 (2026), The Sheep Detectives (2026), Backrooms (2026), Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu…
But, um, let's kick things off with Mortal Kombat 2, which was directed by Simon McQuoid.
It was released this year, 2026, and the logline reads, "The fan-favorite champions, now joined by Johnny Cage himself, are pitted against one another in the ultimate battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders."
[laughs]
What do you guys think of that logline?
Wow.
It's, like, just complete gibberish for anyone who doesn't know-
Yep.
Yeah
...
[laughs]
[laughs] So I've been a fan of Mortal Kombat for as long as I was allowed to play video games, [chuckles] um, so it's been a really long time, and, um, I've seen all the movies.
I re-watched all of them before seeing this, this latest one, and, um, I'll spare you guys the details, especially those who don't really care, um, but I'll just say that the 2021 reboot spent a little too much time explaining how everyone gets their powers.
Hmm.
I agree.
Honestly, I don't really give a shit about that at all.
Um-
[laughs]
[laughs] Um, but that 2021 reboot, I will say it accomplished something, for better or worse, and that was setting up this sequel to focus almost entirely on the tournament itself-
Oh, okay
... which I think is safe to say what everybody cares about, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, Mark, have you heard, like, on the film cast or any other m- media or memes, the whole thing, like, Surfer Dracula?
Yes.
