It's kind of everything you want a Street Fighter movie to be.
Colin StewartHOST
60:10
How does it rank comparatively to the new Mortal Kombat movies?
Sean WellsHOST
60:14
oh, new Mortal Kombat, they're better.
Colin StewartHOST
60:17
They're better.
David SonGUEST
60:17
Well, yes and no, because
Colin StewartHOST
60:22
Yeah, I was going to say, like, it's...
Colin StewartHOST
60:24
And I thought that when I saw the trailer, I was like, that's the right choice.
Colin StewartHOST
60:28
Like, Mortal Kombat, I feel like you can be serious, but, like, Street Fighter, if you reach a point of too much serious, it's going to be lame, which is kind of what I feel like happened with the Drunk Love.
SummerHOST
94:32
than I wanted to.
PandoraHOST
94:34
I watched it and then immediately after watched the new Mortal Kombat movie with Karl Urban.
PandoraHOST
94:40
And that is really fun.
PandoraHOST
94:42
Actually, I recommend that.
PandoraHOST
94:44
Mortal Kombat 2 is really, really fun.
TrinketHOST
94:47
I didn't realize they'd made a new Mortal Kombat movie.
SummerHOST
94:49
Is that the Johnny Cage one?
PandoraHOST
94:51
Yeah.
Danny MacHOST
32:31
You know what I'm really excited to see?
Matthew GrahamGUEST
32:33
Mortal Kombat 3.
Matthew GrahamGUEST
32:33
Oh, okay.
Matthew GrahamGUEST
32:35
The sequel to...
Everett WilliamsPANELIST
37:18
look what happens when they make things serious look at the last live action in the Turtles movie
Chris WilliamsHOST
37:23
don't even go that far like I enjoyed it better than the first one but would you rather watch Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat 2 because they both came out this year I haven't
Everett WilliamsPANELIST
37:35
seen
Chris WilliamsHOST
37:35
either
Tony TurnerPANELIST
37:35
yet Mortal Kombat was funny for what it was
Isaac TorontoPANELIST
37:39
yeah Street Fighter,
Tony TurnerPANELIST
37:40
was
Isaac TorontoPANELIST
37:44
It really is the same
KieranGUEST
3:00
That is.
TonyHOST
3:00
Well, Mortal Kombat was supposed to be last year's Halloween episode.
TonyHOST
3:04
We had it all prepared.
TonyHOST
3:05
They moved it to May for no reason.
TonyHOST
3:07
Huh.
TonyHOST
3:07
was monster.
TonyHOST
3:08
So we had to like scramble last minute last year, but this year street fighter, I'm like, all right, street fighters, the Halloween week episode, uh, Mortal Kombat would have made more sense.
TonyHOST
3:18
There's more scary stuff in this.
VictorHOST
10:29
Yeah, I've heard that.
VictorHOST
10:30
I mean, I was not a huge fan of that Mortal Kombat film that came out earlier this year.
VictorHOST
10:34
And part of the reason I didn't even bother to see this is because everybody was saying that was the better of the two.
VictorHOST
10:39
And I'm like, man, that wasn't that good.
DevinHOST
10:44
I mean, it's like a lot of the other fighting games from the 90s.
DevinHOST
10:47
Mortal Kombat also with, you know, there's a tournament and we brought the best fighters in the world to compete.
DevinHOST
10:53
The stakes are different compared to Mortal Kombat, but the premise, I think, the idea behind it is very similar, where it's like, yep, here's the best fighters.
DevinHOST
11:03
That's what the movie kind of is.
DevinHOST
11:05
I think that's one positive of the movie, I guess, is that I feel like for a general audience member, if they've never engaged with a Street Fighter thing, I think they can, for the most part, They may not get every reference, but they can experience the characters for the first time for the most part.

12 MINS LATER

DevinHOST
23:09
I don't want to give spoilers, but, like, yeah, there's, like, certain, like, jokes where I was like...
DevinHOST
23:16
Man, that made it feel awkward when I feel like it wasn't supposed to be.
DevinHOST
23:19
Or... waiting for a punchline like you said and then like it kind of happens and then you're like but we then move on to the next thing uh i feel like the mid part of this movie like really skipped through i'm assuming a lot of time and i wish we got a little bit more there um i just feel like it was really choppy throughout uh i will say i did like the some of the highs of the fighting scenes like I don't think every fighting scene was good but there was some better ones that I really liked not spoiling any but there's some that I was like alright this feels very anime I like this shit and there's other ones where I'm like oh they're not even gonna show this they're just gonna say it happened and that's kind of disappointing and I do understand your point of like it could really slow down the movie we do match match match match match but then I think about the Mortal Kombat movie we saw this year where I feel like One of our pros for that was at least some of those fights had a decent amount of pacing.
Gerald GlassfordHOST
23:36
And in the second week with all the name power, with all the star power, it had no power as it dropped 72%.
Gerald GlassfordHOST
23:45
in his second weekend your thoughts my friend on this and is there hope you know after the disappointing returns for mortal kombat 2 is there hope for the fighting genre left in in movies
Josh PedersonHOST
23:59
know it's hard for street fighter i think because they have already come from a line of like not well or not not it's not not well received but not taken seriously uh like movies right and and short films and things like that so i think they had a harder hill to climb than mortal kombat or it's like mortal kombat is like beloved by all right and people still play the games and they buy the action figures whereas like Street Fighter is kind of the lesser it's like deciding whether you want to shop at Target or Walmart right like if you want those designer names you go to Target and if you want to just like have cheap stuff you go to Walmart I think that's where we're at with Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter which is unfortunate because you know I don't think the Street Fighter games are bad I liked playing the last Street Fighter and I don't um you know i don't know what the what they can do to you know better themselves but yeah i mean i i i have to watch this movie before i can like make a an official call on this but i don't know like i hope that um you know when it hits streaming it'll find new life
Gerald GlassfordHOST
25:12
and we talked about the variables when it comes to Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat.
Gerald GlassfordHOST
25:17
I just think at this point, because Mortal Kombat 2, spoilers, it's been a while for a little while, so just that one I can spoil.
Gerald GlassfordHOST
25:24
At the end, they set up for a number three, and I just don't think they're going to get it, the opportunity to make a number three.
Gerald GlassfordHOST
25:32
But I think now that with the Parabros coming together, Paramount and Warner Brothers, I think when it comes right down to it, the only way that we'll see these characters continue on, on both one side or the other, is if they face off against each other in a Warner Brothers versus Street Fighter movie.
Gerald GlassfordHOST
25:48
I think that's the only thing that can gain interest.
