Whatever number you think I spend in a given month, multiply it by five. Because not only do I have a spending problem, I also have ADHD, as we damn well know, and about 80% of the time, the ADHD…

But first I want to talk to you about things that are worth spending the money in life.

I don't give a flying fuck what anybody says about how it's throwing your money away or lighting your money on fire or that buying a house is a better investment, blah, blah, blah.

But I will happily tell you, buying a house only makes sense if you have so much money.

If you genuinely already have all the money in the world to spend on your goddamn house, and this is coming from somebody who owns a house, I have to pay $10,000 for my boiler.

And those are just the emergent things, okay? I was speaking to somebody that I ran into from high school the other day.

Maybe like, when did I graduate? 16 years ago is that the right math i don't know i think i'm aging myself a long time ago okay i graduated high school i ran into this girl that i used to know and she was like oh my god wesley looks so old i thought he was a baby blah blah blah like what's your update you guys know the vibe of that conversation and the conversation took a turn towards like oh what do you do for work where do you live now blah blah blah so she told me where she lived and she's looking at me expectantly and i was like oh i bought a house a couple years ago down the street and i could see the color drain from her face and her immediately playing that comparison game with herself and and thinking you know that she was somehow less than me because she didn't buy a house and she was like oh well i haven't bought a house yet and like went into this whole defensive speech about buying a house and i was a girl this is not some sort of you know thing you have to feel bad about at all i wish i was renting like it's not you know i didn't say this whole speech to her obviously but in my head i'm thinking it's not this big moral comparison like it's such a crazy societal expectation that you're only successful if you own a house like hello I live in Massachusetts.

Like every single day I think about how much I paid for this house and how insane, absolutely insane that was.

And also I am willing to bet every single person you know either did not put 20% down in their house or their parents helped them.

I don't know a single person who either didn't put 20% down or didn't have help from their parents, period.
