So without further ado, we're going to show you this video that has pretty much gone viral, but as I mentioned out front, it just happened down the street.
On Saturday, September 26th, he was brutally assaulted outside a bar in St. Catharines.
Carson and his family are asking that any possible hate motivation behind this be reported.
Okay, so let's,
without putting too fine a point on it, that certainly gives you a focus on what happened down the street.
And there seem to be various and sundry perspectives on exactly, A, what happened, in actual fact.
And B, which is perhaps the most important, is what was the motivation? At first, it was labeled hate crime because, of course, as we mentioned, Carton is gay.
So was this a guy and a woman or a couple guys and a woman or whatever beating the crap out of somebody because he was gay? Well, after the fact, the police seemed to say, no, this really wasn't a hate crime.
Now, that doesn't mean because somebody might be an ass or a bad person or a dick or whatever you want to call them.
It doesn't mean they deserve to be beaten up to that extent on a downtown street in the city.
But nevertheless, this is where the whole debate gets interesting is the fact that Carson, 25 years old, gay, people on the street beat him up.
Was it just because he was gay, which would mean hate crime? Or was it because they just didn't like him and he pissed them off? Which is still a crime, but it's a different kind of crime.
It would come with a different kind of charge, and it would come with a different kind of trial, and it would come with a different kind of sentence.
I know if you beat somebody up, you beat somebody up, and you'd think, well, you get charged with assault.
