This week on Mind the Snap, we’re joined by Michael F. Florio to talk all things fantasy football ahead of the new NFL season! Whether you’re chasing another championship, trying to recover from last…
What's the biggest mistake you think new
fantasy managers make? I think, and it's something that we talk about a lot.
Unfortunately, in fantasy, I think super flex cures this because, and my buddy Marcus argues that it's different.
It just makes scarcity, but I think scarcity makes it, it forces strategy and it makes you have to decide.
Do you want to take a quarterback? early or not but in a one quarterback league the fall off between a quarterback early on and a middle round quarterback versus the other positions is it's just the smallest fall off compared to all the other positions so unfortunately it is a net negative to take a quarterback that early but i've seen it happen a lot where people are like look josh allen is is the face of the league or before him patrick mahomes the best in the world i'm gonna take him first overall That, I think, is a mistake that far too often new fantasy players make.
How important is the draft compared to the in-season management of your team?
You could win the draft, but you're not going to win your league if your in-season management is terrible.
You could be great at finding pickups, but if you draft terribly, it's not going to matter.
But I'll say this, in almost every team, even the championship team, if you look at their roster week one versus week 17, it's going to be very different.
And, you know, like your first four picks are guys that you should feel confident I could start them 17 times this year and not have to think twice about it.
It always also depends on the size of your league because I am in a 14-team league with three flex spots and a bunch of guys who do this for a living.
So I think in a league that deep, safe floor guys are more valuable than they would be.
But in a traditional 10 or 12 team league, I am looking to try to get guys that I think if they hit, they are going to be every week starters for me.
