Hannah SchweikerGuestMattHostSo Before we talk about it, I want to know what was some preconceived notions about this beautiful country? Had you heard of it? I think the Game of Thrones put it on the map.

Yeah, so I've never actually seen Game of Thrones, but I heard a lot about it when I was there.

And I feel like you still should watch it so that I can be like, oh, I've seen that.

I had heard that it was kind of starting to be put on people's travel radars, kind of next Greece and places like that, that I was kind of hearing of it more, but I didn't know too much about it.

And the only reason I actually chose to go there was because, um, well, when I first started traveling, I did a lot of world Packers volunteer exchanges and it had been like a year since I had done one.

And I was like, you know what? Maybe I should look into that and not do one that's like farming or hostile work like I used to, but maybe there's one that's kind of more my speed now with maybe less budgety travel and more nicer accommodation and more professional tasks and so I was looking mainly for photography and videography because I do that as well and that's how I chose Croatia because I found a World Packers experience that was being a photographer working on different boats all summer and instead of staying in like a shared hostel accommodation or a tent or anything like that it was your own apartment well I shared an apartment with some people but And it was an apartment in the city center.

And so that's ultimately how I chose it is I really just wanted a photographer position and I wanted a nicer accommodation that I could really feel like I was really living someplace and had my own apartment in space.
I've been to Croatia three times and, you know, it's just, it's an incredible country and there's just so much to see there.
Now with World Packers, what is that for someone that has no idea what that is? This is the first time they're hearing it.
What the hell is World Packers?

So you can download this app and then it will have in all the countries basically of the world, there are volunteer exchanges that you can do and get free food and accommodation in exchange for doing a couple tasks a day.

So I could work reception at the hostel for two hours a day and I would get a bed there to sleep every night and maybe a breakfast every day.

So it's a really good thing to do when you're budget traveling because you don't have to spend money on your nightly accommodation and a lot of times meals and you get the sense of a home base and just getting to feel more like a local in the country because you start to live there.

The people who work at the hostel are local and just it's immersive experience.

So there's a lot of different ones, not even just hostels, but gardening, volunteering as a photographer, teaching English, anything you can think of that could be traded as an expertise.
