There's not nearly as much news in the online casino space as there is in sports betting or prediction markets or even land-based casinos.

So, news about when exactly the next regulated iGaming state is going to launch its industry is automatically worth talking about, even if that next state is Maine, population about 1.4 million, 42nd biggest state out of 50.

Maine Governor Janet Mills, you will recall, surprised almost everyone by allowing the iGaming bill to become law back in January.

They will not have those sites before the end of 2026, and this week we learned that they may not even have them in the first quarter of 2027.

It seems the state keeps making revisions to its proposed iGaming rules, and every set of revisions resets the clock, opening up a new comment period, then up to another 150 days after that comment period for adoption and approval of the rules.

So, main gambling control unit executive director Milk Champion is not providing a timeline, but it's certainly possible that this will stretch into the spring of 2027.

All this red tape, all this bureaucracy, it all just keeps people who want to do legal online gambling sitting on the sidelines.

And a year or two or five from now, nobody's going to care that main iGaming launched in, say, April 2027 instead of, say, October 2026.
