Surprised, I guess, that it happened at all just because you summed it up perfectly.

They have told us this... entire time like oh he's i'm here for a good not a long time uh he's he's not gonna stick around here he will probably go back to the front office there was some chatter about him maybe even becoming the gm at some point a lot of talk about not wanting the travel schedule that goes with being a manager wanting to stick around with his family um I guess fuck them kids as they say, uh, whatever contract the Mets gave him, uh, was good enough for him to work it out with his family, which is good.

Um, I'm curious to see what the details are, like how much money did they actually give him here? I assume that the three-year deal is not inclusive of this year.

And if that's the case, then that would put him as the manager, at least contractually through the end of the 2029 season.

Maybe they have spent this summer putting feelers out there because all the guys that have been connected with the Mets, Alex Cora, Carlos Beltran, Albert Pujols, Morosi even mentioned guys like Raul Abanez.

So in theory, the Mets may have had conversations with all of these guys over the last few months and realized, hey, these guys aren't as interested as maybe one might think.

Carlos Beltran did kind of pour cold water on the idea that he would be the manager when asked about it over the weekend during his retirement ceremonies.

Maybe they weren't interested in guys like Pujols or Abanez or taking that chance on first-time guys with no long-term ties to the organization.

I think that that's going to be an interesting thing that potentially comes out.

As I'm almost talking through it, I'm like, okay, maybe it does make sense that they didn't do a search because they probably already talked to all these guys that they would have in the offseason.
