A mattress in New York once told Nora, “You cannot let the bastards get you down.” Today, with this episode of IGTBO, we are **not letting the bastards** get us down – we’re celebrating the OK things…
Nora McInernyHostSometimes I forget I'm one of the luckiest people in the world 'cause at my apartment I have a sink where I can choose if I want the water to be hot or cold and I have a shower that does the exact same thing which is really just crazy 'cause like royalty didn't even have that back in the day.
I have a refrigerator where I can put food in and a microwave and a stove and an oven and pots and pans and plates and cups and forks and knives and tin foil and Saran Wrap and, uh, Tupperware and just all this shit.
It's just crazy the abundance in my apartment and it goes past my daily awareness all the time.
I don't even think about it.
You know? And it's like I've got air conditioning and a heater and a computer and a guitar and a TV and subscription services to watch any show or any movie I want and a bed and clothes and just all this stuff, you know? And then I still find myself being like, "I don't have enough.
I need more.
I want the big nice house," you know? And that's okay to want that and I'm gonna have the mansion one day or whatever, but it's not like it's gonna make anything that much better because yeah, maybe my shower will look nicer, but the water's not gonna be any more hot or cold, right? And the oven isn't going to get any hotter [laughs] than the one in my apartment, you know? And it's just kind of like it's weird because I've made it.
I've made it.
I've got it all covered, you know? And, uh, I still, my ego is still like, "I haven't made it." It's like I'm still, you know, on the way.
No, I'm on the way.
I fucking made it.
Okay, let me revise that.
I've made it and I'm still on the way 'cause there's always gonna be more, but from here on everything's just a victory lap.

That's something that I've made my children listen to over and over and over again.

I often forget to appreciate the things that are good in my life that a lot of people in the world don't have.

And I know that it, there, you know, there's a slivers slope between this and, you know, our, our parents screaming at us to eat our, our peas because there are, you know, starving kids in Africa.

Um, but it's, you know, they kind of have a point, don't you think? They kind of have a point.

So I have been feeling for the past few weeks like I have to remember that I am the luckiest girl in the world.
