For the last four months, Sony has burned every bit of goodwill they have earned in the last decade. Why? Dunno. How? Take a listen. Ads Aspire Drinks: aspiredrinks.com/discount/RHAZE Promo code…
There's been a lot of things that Sony Computer Entertainment, not only of America, but of Japan, have been doing.
We talked in a previous episode about how Sony announced that they, in 2028, as of, I think it was January, February, 2028, they want to just stop making physical media.
Even though that's their technology, they own the licensing rights to that technology.
and it's like okay that's pretty pathetic but i think microsoft was looking for a way out but sony just gave them an out nintendo clapped back and said now we're going to keep doing physical media so um that had once again nintendo has been the good guys for a little bit of a while now but we don't need to get deep into who's bad or who's good what multi-billion dollar corporation you like we absolutely don't need to do that This has been a giant backlash, has been causing a giant backlash for Sony for the last, ever since they made that announcement.
Like pretty much the moment they made that announcement, there's been a lot of customers of theirs turning heel.
Nobody I have talked to has heard the decision of Sony turning off physical media, shook their head and said, yeah, that's a good idea going forward.
Even though a lot of people do buy digital games, I still buy digital games, typically for indie developers, but I still buy digital games from time to time.
No one likes the thought of, yes, we don't actually want you to own any physical media going into the future.
If you're watching the YouTube version of this, you can click the card in the top and you can watch the video explaining why that's a bad thing.
Going forward, though, Sony was taken to court as of January 2025 in the California District Court.
They were arguing as the defendants saying that, and I quote, nobody, no reasonable player believes that once they buy a digital game that they own the rights to that digital game.
This court case was about how Sony was misleading players into believing that they own digital games.
And then Sony just wants the right to remove those digital games off of your hard drive at any given point whenever they feel.
But I will say a couple days ago, this episode is being recorded September 17th, 2026.
